The piece that draws the working zone
A desk mat is the cheapest way to make a setup look intentional, but its real job is spatial: it draws a boundary around the keyboard and mouse so the working zone stops drifting. The common large size is 90×40 cm, which is exactly wide enough for a tenkeyless board plus a comfortable mouse sweep.
Sizes and what each one holds
A small mat (~60×30 cm) covers a compact board and a little mouse room. The large 90×40 cm size is the workhorse: keyboard on the left two-thirds, mouse on the right third, nothing hanging off. Extended mats reach 120 cm and effectively resurface the whole desk.
