Desk lamps
Light the desk, not the screen
Good task lighting reduces the contrast between a bright screen and a dark desk, which is what actually tires eyes at night. A lamp needs a small base (~15 cm) but real arm reach, placed to the side so it never glares off the monitor.
Placement & glare
Put the lamp to the side of the monitor, angled onto the keyboard and desk — not pointed at the screen, which washes it out. A clamp or weighted-arm lamp keeps the base tiny while the head reaches where you need it.
Brightness & colour temperature
A dimmable head lets you match room light: cooler and brighter for focus, warmer and lower in the evening. Adjustable colour temperature is the feature most worth having for a screen-facing desk.
Bias light bonus
A soft light behind the monitor (a bias light) further eases eye strain in a dark room. The lamp itself only needs its small base on the grid — easy to tuck into a corner once the big pieces are placed.
