Two boxes that want the corners
A pair of desktop speakers is ~15×20 cm each, and they compete for the same corners a wide monitor wants. The fix is placement, not size: an equilateral triangle from each speaker to your ears, angled inward, is where a small pair sounds biggest.
The stereo triangle
